ABOUT THE ARTIST :

I  want to give a short description on my background:

I was born on 3 March 1976 with a hearing disability, with a 90% hearing loss in my right ear, and a 70% loss in my left ear.  I was admitted to ‘Sonitus School for Hearing Impaired Learners at the age of 6 years, until the age of 21 in 1997 when my matric year was suddenly cut short on the 10th of May 1997 with a tragic accident…

I was visiting a friend for the weekend, and whilst she was driving – I was the passenger – she fiddled with her car radio and took her eyes off the road.  Within seconds she turned the steering wheel and the car rolled… I was thrown out of the car and broke my neck - suddenly I was a Quadriplegic!  My matric year was down the drain, I was unconscious for several days, and after several months discharged from hospital where my mother had to take care of me.

After a few years my mother sadly passed away and my brother who was working in Sasolburg suddenly had to take care of me, bed wash and clothe me before he could go to work in the mornings. He also passed away on the 24th of December 2010 from heart failure… Suddenly I had NO family!  Friends came to fetch me in Sasolburg and brought me to Pretoria after the funeral of my brother, where I stayed with them for three weeks until they could find a space for me in ‘LAT WIEL House for Quadriplegics’ in Parktown Estates, Pretoria, where I am still currently residing.

I slowly started picking up the pieces of my life, and became interested in Mouth Painting which a few of my friends did in ‘LAT WIEL’. I was introduced to the Mouth and Foot Association during 2011, but so far wasn’t successful.  Since 2011 I have sent in approximately 25 Oil Paintings without any feedback, and some of my paintings were returned to me during 2015.

I enjoy my mouth painting tremendously, it stimulates my brain and helps me not to stress and get depressed.  It is also my intention to start with Exhibitions this year!
