GERT ESTERHUYSE

TITLE : NAMIBIAN LANDSCAPE
MEDIUM : OIL ON CANVAS
SIZE : 860 X 480

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
"I was born on a farm near Keetmans hoop where I grew up. During my school years I never had any art training, but because of my love for nature, trees and mountains inspired me to draw landscapes on any available surface. At the age of about 40 I got some oil paints and a pallet knife from a friend. About 3 years later while alone at home with nothing to do, I took out the my paint and start experimenting. The only printable surface I could found was a plastic custard jar. My first ever oil painting was about to be made. With the pallet knife and black paint I started to paint a landscape with mountains and trees on the white jar. Very impressed with my art work, I went the next morning to buy some more paint and my first brushes. As a beginner without any training what so ever, it wasn't easy but I think I did well. I commit myself not to make any painting more than once. There will always be only the original painting in circulation"
