ABOUT THE ARTIST :
Since I can remember I have a passion for Art. As a child my first love was pencil and charcoal sketches. I spend many hours with my sketchpad and created my own world. I got the opportunity at the age of 15 to sketch for a company’s monthly newsletter. Later on I have entered a competition where we have to design a cover for a book. I won the 1st prize with my design of an owl done in charcoal. A few years later I entered another competition with a charcoal and pencil still life sketch. Again I walked away with the first prize. From thereon I couldn’t imagine a day without drawing or painting. I realized that I want to make art my career but unfortunately I didn’t get a chance.

I spend 20 years in service of the SAPS
but still in between working, studying
for my LLB degree and Diploma in Negotiation through Unisa I always made time
for my painting. I even gave fabric paint classes once a month for elderly
people and children. During this time I experimented with different mediums like oil, gouache and
pastels. But I love acrylic. That is my medium of preference.
About six months ago my husband gave me
the opportunity to become a full time artist.
I did not had any formal training until about a month ago when I met a
very talented artist Helen Brice-Willis. She gave me some tips (tricks of the
trade, like she calls it) and I did three paintings with her. I get most of my
knowledge about art in my collection of art books and magazines.
My aim is not to do create realistic
paintings but just to create a piece of art that can be enjoyed by an art lover
or anyone who love beautiful things. I want my paintings to speak to the buyer
because every painting represents a feeling and a piece of who I am.
I have not done any solo exhibitions as
yet but looking forward to have my first exhibition later this year in Margate
KZN. Currently my work are exhibited
with those of other artists in Margate.
Painting is absolutely my happy place. It is my way of escaping to a world of
creativity. While busy with a painting I
found that I am losing touch with reality.
I am totally drawn into my own creative “space”.
To me my brush is a magic wand…..

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Delene
Lambert is a self-taught artist specializing in wildlife art. After getting
married to Tom Lambert, a farmer in the Featherstone district of Chivhu,
Zimbabwe it was very isolated on the farm and she needed to do something. Her
mother had taken art lessons with a lady living close by and invited her to
join. It was a magical lesson and although the first paintings were pretty
dreadful she loved it and from that moment was hooked. The farm was part of a
conservancy so she had many opportunities to observe the animals in their
natural habitat.
In 2002
political upheaval in Zimbabwe prevailed and she, her husband and two small
children were given 24 hours to leave with only what could be packed on one of
the farm trucks. Having been stripped of home and income art was a form of
escape and was able to sell her paintings to keep their heads above water. They
moved to Harare Zimbabwe where Tom opened a borehole and pump business and she
had her first exhibition. They then moved to South Africa and haven't looked
back.
Delene
spends many hours at waterholes taking photographs to work from and her
preferred medium is oil on canvas. She is a listed artist in 'Artists of the
Waterberg' directory, has been the subject of several magazine and newspaper
articles and has had successful exhibitions. She has been commissioned to do
the paintings for Lephalale municipal offices and the Anglo-American game
lodges. Her paintings are sold worldwide.
